In “The Bulgarian Bartender,” our main characters, Tiff & Angie, visit Bulgaria to rescue their friend, Kaylee. Although the characters are fictional, several of the places they visit in Bulgaria are real! Here we will feature a few of these amazing spots. You may want to visit them someday!

Bulgaria is a country in southern Europe, part of the European Union. It has mountains, coastline and large cosmopolitan cities. The population of Bulgaria is 6.7 million. Sofia, its capital and largest city, has 1.2 million.

Bulgarians really like to overthrow their government. They’ve done it multiple times in the past thirty years.

Rose production is one of Bulgaria’s largest exports. The center of the rose industry is a town called Kazanlak, in the middle of the country.

Arena di Serdika

Arena di Serdika is a luxury hotel in Sofia that has ancient Roman ruins inside its lobby. Tiff & Angie visit this unique hotel in their search for their friend Kaylee. They get a very important clue here!

Baba Vanga

Baba Burya from “The Bulgarian Bartender” is a fictitious character, but her mentor, Baba Vanga, was a real person, living 1911-1996. She prophesied many things in her time. There is a museum dedicated to Baba Vanga in Petrich, Bulgaria.

Tiff & Angie visit Baba Burya to gain insight in their search for their best friend Kaylee. Was it worth it to visit a psychic??

The Belogradchik Rocks are located in northern Bulgaria. The Rocks were a natural feature but were then enhanced for military purposes for many centuries. Now the Rocks attract more than 70,000 tourists a year.

Tiff & Angie visit this place with Dimitar, who has been helping them find Kaylee.

Budludzha Monument

Budludzha is close to Kazanlak and is a Soviet-era monument that has not been maintained in many years.

It is used as a base for the Thracian Brotherhood in “The Bulgarian Bartender” novel and is the scene of a major battle.

Kazanlak, a small town in Bulgaria, hosts the Rose Festival each summer. There is rose jam, rose wine and a lot of dancing and drinking.

Tiff & Angie come to the festival because they’ve got information that the Thracian Brotherhood likes to participate in the event. Their hope is to find Kaylee.
